Covert military project
Weapon X is a fictional covert government program in Marvel Comics that experiments on mutants and other subjects to create super-soldiers.
The program is most famous for bonding adamantium to Wolverine's skeleton and erasing his memories.
The name refers both to the program itself and to its test subjects: He escaped from Weapon X.
The X may indicate the tenth iteration of a larger weapons program or simply mark the subject as unknown.
