W-9s
Contractor payment paperwork
W-9s are IRS tax forms that businesses use to collect taxpayer identification information from independent contractors, freelancers, and vendors.
The form requests a person's name, address, and Social Security or employer identification number.
Businesses need W-9s to report payments and issue 1099 forms at year's end: Before we can pay you, we'll need you to fill out a W-9.
