Form 1099
Income reporting form
Form 1099 is a U.S. tax document reporting income other than wages—interest, dividends, freelance payments, or other miscellaneous earnings.
Businesses must send 1099s to contractors paid over a threshold amount, and copies go to the IRS.
Unlike W-2 employees, 1099 workers handle their own tax withholding: I got a 1099 from every client I freelanced for last year.
