Vocaloid
Synthetic voice software
Vocaloid is voice synthesis software that generates singing from typed lyrics and melody input.
The technology uses sampled human voices to create virtual performers, most famously the turquoise-haired Hatsune Miku.
The term extends to the virtual characters themselves, who have become cultural phenomena with massive fanbases, original music catalogs, and holographic concerts: My favorite Vocaloid is Kagamine Rin.
