VAT number

Business tax code

A VAT number is a unique identifier assigned to businesses registered for value-added tax, the consumption tax used throughout Europe and many other countries.

Companies display their VAT number on invoices and use it when conducting cross-border trade: We'll need your VAT number before we can process the order.

The format varies by country—UK numbers begin with GB, German ones with DE.
