Syrian hamster
Aleppo's pocket pet
A Syrian hamster is a small rodent native to Syria and Turkey, the most common species kept as a pet.
Also called golden hamsters for their typical tawny coloring, they are solitary animals that must be housed alone to prevent fighting.
Syrian hamsters are larger and easier to handle than dwarf varieties.
