Stone of Scone

Scottish throne base

The Stone of Scone is an ancient block of sandstone historically used in the coronation of Scottish monarchs, later incorporated into English and British coronation ceremonies.

Also called the Stone of Destiny, it sat beneath the coronation throne at Westminster Abbey for centuries before being returned to Scotland in 1996.

The Stone of Scone was stolen by Scottish nationalists in 1950.
