Reynard the Fox
Reynard the Fox is a trickster figure from medieval European folklore, a cunning fox who outwits wolves, bears, and other animals through cleverness and deception.
The tales, popular from the 12th century onward, satirized feudal society and the church.
Reynard became so associated with foxes that his name (*renard*) replaced the original French word for fox entirely.
