Rathke's pouch
Pituitary gland precursor
Rathke's pouch is an embryonic structure that develops into the anterior pituitary gland.
This pocket of tissue forms from the roof of the developing mouth and migrates upward toward the brain during fetal development.
In medicine, remnants of Rathke's pouch can form cysts that cause hormonal problems or vision disturbances.
