Professor Oak
Professor Oak is a character from the Pokémon video game and anime franchise—the kindly scientist who gives young trainers their first Pokémon and Pokédex.
His name has become shorthand for any mentor figure who launches someone on an adventure: My thesis advisor was my Professor Oak.
The phrase Is it a boy or a girl? references his famous question about the player's gender.
