Phil Donahue
Phil Donahue is an American television host who pioneered the daytime talk show format. *The Phil Donahue Show* (1967–1996) introduced audience participation and tackled controversial social issues—feminism, civil rights, AIDS—when daytime television was dominated by game shows and soap operas.
His format became the template for Oprah Winfrey and subsequent hosts.
