Newbery Medal
Children's book award
The Newbery Medal is an annual award for the most distinguished American children's literature, given by the American Library Association.
Named for eighteenth-century British bookseller John Newbery, it has been awarded since 1922 and remains the most prestigious honor in children's book publishing.
A Newbery sticker on a cover signals quality to parents and librarians: We only read Newbery winners during summer reading.
