K-9 search
Canine police work
A K-9 search is a search conducted using a trained police dog—K-9 being a homophonic respelling of canine.
Dogs are deployed to detect drugs, explosives, cadavers, or missing persons, their acute sense of smell covering ground faster than human searchers.
In legal contexts, a K-9 alert can establish probable cause: The K-9 search turned up two kilos of cocaine in the trunk.
