Irish luck

Celtic good fortune

Irish luck is the notion that Irish people are especially fortunate, used both sincerely and ironically.

The phrase gained currency during the American gold rush, when Irish immigrants had notable success—though some attributed this to hard work rather than fortune.

Today it often appears with a wink, acknowledging that luck may be more complicated than it seems: With my Irish luck, the car broke down in the one spot with no cell service.
