A German pancake is a large baked pancake made from an egg-heavy batter poured into a hot buttered pan and cooked in the oven rather than on the stovetop.
Unlike flat breakfast pancakes, it puffs up dramatically during baking, then deflates into a bowl-like shape with raised, crispy edges.
Also called a Dutch baby, it's typically served with lemon juice and powdered sugar or fresh fruit.
