European spas
Old World resorts
European spas are health resorts built around natural mineral springs, thermal waters, or therapeutic mud—historically places where the wealthy went to "take the waters" for ailments real or imagined.
Towns like Baden-Baden, Vichy, and Karlovy Vary developed elaborate cultures of bathing, drinking mineral water, and promenading.
The tradition continues today, though modern European spas blend historic hydrotherapy with contemporary wellness treatments: We spent a week at a European spa in the Czech Republic.
