European Championships
Pan-continental athletic contest
European Championships are continental competitions determining the best athlete, team, or nation in Europe for a particular sport.
Nearly every major sport holds one: the UEFA European Championship for football, the European Athletics Championships for track and field, and dozens of others.
The phrase usually appears with a sport name or context indicating which competition is meant: She won gold at the European Championships in gymnastics.
