Cronut is a trademarked name for the original croissant-doughnut hybrid created by pastry chef Dominique Ansel in 2013.
The pastry became a sensation and spawned many imitators using generic names.
The Cronut was named one of Time magazine's best inventions of 2013. (Lowercase cronut refers to the pastry generically.)
