A plain bagel is a bagel without additional flavors, seeds, or toppings baked into the dough—no poppy seeds, sesame seeds, onion, garlic, cinnamon raisin, or everything seasoning.
The name is slightly misleading since a plain bagel still has the characteristic dense, chewy texture and slight malt sweetness of any bagel; it's plain only relative to fancier varieties.
I'll just have a plain bagel with cream cheese.
