A buddy system pairs people together for safety or mutual support, especially in activities where someone might need help.
Swimmers, divers, and hikers use buddy systems so no one is alone if something goes wrong.
The term extends to any arrangement where partners look out for each other: New employees are assigned a buddy through our buddy system.
