British cities
English urban centers
British cities are urban centers in the United Kingdom—London, Manchester, Birmingham, Edinburgh, and the like.
The phrase often appears in discussions of regional policy, economic development, or comparisons: British cities lag behind European counterparts in public transport.
Unlike American usage, "city" in Britain historically required a royal charter or cathedral, though modern designations follow different criteria.
