Bing cherries
Sweet red drupes
Bing cherries are a variety of sweet cherry, dark red to nearly black when ripe, with firm flesh and a rich, sweet flavor.
They're the most widely grown sweet cherry in the United States, popular for fresh eating and baking: The Bing cherries at the farmers market looked perfect.
Named after a Chinese orchard worker in Oregon who helped cultivate them in the 1870s.
