Visible voice boxes
Adam's apples is the plural of Adam's apple, the visible lump in the front of the throat formed by the larynx.
It's more prominent in men than women due to the angle of cartilage growth during puberty.
The name comes from a folk belief that a piece of forbidden fruit lodged in Adam's throat: The boys' Adam's apples bobbed nervously as they waited to be called on.
