A level

Pre-university British exam

A level is a qualification exam taken by British students at around age 18, typically in three or four subjects, determining university admission.

Short for Advanced level, it follows GCSEs taken two years earlier.

Students speak of doing their A levels or getting three As at A level.

Results day in August is a national event, with universities confirming or rejecting applicants based on grades.
