808 bass
Deep electronic boom
808 bass refers to the deep, booming low-frequency sound produced by the Roland TR-808 drum machine, particularly its bass drum.
The original 808 kick had a distinctive synthetic thump that could be pitched and sustained, creating the subwoofer-rattling bass that became foundational to hip-hop, trap, and electronic music.
The term now describes any similar deep, rumbling bass tone: That track has heavy 808 bass.
Producers often just say "808s" to mean bass-heavy beats in this style.
