work placements
On-site learning stints
Work placements are temporary positions where students or trainees work at a company to gain practical experience in their field of study.
Common in British English and higher education contexts, they typically last weeks to months and may be paid or unpaid: She did a work placement at a law firm during her second year.
The American equivalent is usually internship.
