wheel of death
Rotating acrobatic platform
A wheel of death is a large rotating apparatus used in circus and acrobatic performances, typically consisting of two connected rings that performers walk inside or on top of while it spins.
The name reflects the genuine danger involved.
The term also describes the spinning cursor or loading indicator on a computer screen—usually Apple's rainbow pinwheel—that appears when a system is unresponsive: I've been staring at the wheel of death for five minutes.
