wheedler

Persistent flattering persuader

A wheedler is someone who coaxes or persuades through flattery, charm, or persistent gentle pressure.

The term carries a note of manipulation—wheedlers get what they want not through honest argument but through cajolery: The little wheedler talked his grandmother into buying him ice cream.

Children and salespeople are often called wheedlers.
