welsh
Dodge a debt
To welsh is to fail to honor a bet or obligation—to back out of a promise, especially involving money: He welshed on the deal and skipped town.
The term is considered offensive by many because it perpetuates a stereotype about Welsh people being untrustworthy.
The spelling welch is a variant. (Capitalized Welsh relates to Wales.)
