warming down

Gradual exercise tapering

Warming down is the practice of gradually reducing physical activity after exercise, typically through gentle movement and stretching.

The opposite of warming up, it helps the body transition from exertion to rest, preventing muscle stiffness and allowing heart rate to return to normal: We spent ten minutes warming down after the run.

Also called cooling down.
