warm-up set
Pre-workout light lifting
A warm-up set is a lighter-weight set of an exercise performed before working sets, preparing muscles and joints for heavier loads: I do two warm-up sets before my heavy squats.
The term belongs to strength training, where lifters progress through increasingly heavy warm-up sets to reach their target weight safely.
