walking the dog
Leash-led pet outing
Walking the dog is literally taking a dog outside for exercise and relief.
The phrase also names a yo-yo trick where the spinning yo-yo rolls along the ground while still attached to the string.
In various contexts, it can be a euphemism for any routine task that gets you out of the house: I told them I was walking the dog and slipped away for twenty minutes.
