ventilation hood

Stovetop air puller

A ventilation hood is an overhead device that captures and removes airborne contaminants—smoke, steam, grease, fumes—from a cooking or work area.

In kitchens, the range hood draws air up and either filters it or vents it outside.

Industrial versions serve similar purposes over equipment that generates hazardous vapors: The lab's ventilation hood kept chemical fumes from spreading.
