unsexes

Strips of sexuality

Unsexes means to deprive of sex or sexual characteristics, or to strip of qualities traditionally associated with one's gender.

The word appears most famously in Lady Macbeth's plea to the spirits to "unsex me here"—to remove her feminine tenderness so she can pursue ruthless ambition.

More broadly, to unsex someone is to desexualize them or challenge their gendered identity: The institution unsexes its inmates, reducing them to numbers.
