undertriage
Inadequate patient prioritization
Undertriage is the failure to classify a patient's condition as serious enough—assigning them a lower priority than their actual medical state requires.
In emergency medicine, triage sorts patients by urgency; undertriage means someone who needs immediate care gets sent to the back of the line.
The opposite of overtriage.
Undertriage of gunshot wounds contributed to preventable deaths.
