u-pick farms
Customer-harvested produce operations
U-pick farms are agricultural operations where customers harvest produce themselves rather than buying pre-picked goods.
Visitors pay by weight or volume for strawberries, apples, pumpkins, or other crops they gather from the fields.
The model reduces labor costs for farmers while offering families an outing: We took the kids to a u-pick farm for blueberries.
Also called pick-your-own farms.
