trust exercise

Backward fall activity

A trust exercise is an activity designed to build confidence between people, typically involving physical vulnerability—most famously, falling backward and relying on others to catch you.

The term extends to any situation requiring faith in another's reliability or goodwill: Lending him the car was a trust exercise.

Often used with ironic awareness that such exercises can backfire.
