tressel

Alternate trestle spelling

A tressel is an alternate spelling of trestle—a supporting framework of vertical legs and horizontal bars, used to hold up tables, bridges, or scaffolding.

The trestle table, supported by such frames rather than fixed legs, was common in medieval dining halls.

A railroad trestle is an open framework bridge carrying tracks over a valley or water.

The spelling with double s is less common.
