town fairs
Community celebration events
Town fairs are periodic public gatherings in a community featuring entertainment, food vendors, games, and local commerce.
Historically, fairs were seasonal markets where merchants and craftspeople sold goods; today they emphasize carnival rides, contests, and community celebration.
Agricultural fairs showcase livestock and produce: The town fair had a pie-eating contest and a Ferris wheel.
County fairs and state fairs are larger versions of the same tradition.
