touch ID

Finger-based authentication system

Touch ID is Apple's fingerprint recognition system, introduced in 2013.

A sensor reads your fingerprint to unlock devices, authorize purchases, or access secure apps.

The technology appears on iPhones, iPads, and MacBooks: I set up Touch ID so I don't have to type my passcode.

Face ID has largely replaced it on newer iPhones.
