tollmen
Highway fee collectors
Tollmen is the plural of tollman, a person who collects tolls at a bridge, road, or turnpike.
The term is old-fashioned, as most toll collection is now automated: The tollmen waved drivers through after payment.
The word appears occasionally in historical contexts describing travel before electronic systems.
