time box
Fixed duration block
A time box is a fixed period allocated to complete a task or reach a decision, after which work stops regardless of completion.
Common in project management and agile development, time boxing prevents perfectionism and scope creep: We'll time box this discussion to fifteen minutes.
The verb means to set such limits: Let's time box the brainstorming session.
