til death do us part
Lifelong marriage commitment
A phrase from traditional wedding vows pledging lifelong commitment to a spouse—the marriage ends only when one partner dies.
The archaic construction (til for until, do for does) gives it ceremonial weight.
Used literally in weddings and figuratively for any supposedly permanent bond: We signed that contract, til death do us part.
Often invoked ironically when commitments fail.
