tax protesters

Anti-levy demonstrators

Tax protesters are people who refuse to pay taxes or file returns, typically claiming the tax system is unconstitutional or that they've found legal loopholes exempting them.

Their arguments—that income tax is voluntary, that wages aren't income, that only federal employees owe taxes—have been consistently rejected by courts.

The tax protester filed suit claiming the Sixteenth Amendment was never properly ratified.

Distinguished from tax resisters, who refuse payment on moral or political grounds without claiming legal justification.
