Tactical awareness is the ability to perceive and understand the immediate elements of a competitive situation—where allies and opponents are positioned, what threats exist, what opportunities are opening.
The term appears most often in military contexts, sports analysis, and video gaming.
A player with strong tactical awareness anticipates the next few seconds of action: Her tactical awareness let her cut off the passing lane before the ball was even kicked.
