surprise guests
Drop-ins without warning
Surprise guests are visitors who arrive without advance notice or invitation.
The phrase usually carries a note of mild inconvenience—you weren't expecting company and the house is a mess: We had surprise guests show up right when I was about to take a nap.
Sometimes the surprise is pleasant, sometimes unwelcome, but the host is always caught off guard.
