subletters
Lease-sharing apartment dwellers
Subletters are tenants who rent from another tenant rather than directly from a landlord or property owner.
The arrangement typically occurs when the original tenant cannot or does not want to occupy the space for part of the lease term: The subletters moved in while she was abroad for six months.
