subductions
Crust sliding under
Subductions is the plural of subduction, a geological process in which one tectonic plate slides beneath another and descends into the Earth's mantle.
This occurs at convergent plate boundaries, typically where oceanic crust meets continental crust, and is responsible for deep ocean trenches, volcanic mountain ranges, and earthquakes.
The subductions occurring along the Pacific Rim created the Ring of Fire.
