stumbles upon
Chances upon unexpectedly
To stumble upon something is to discover it by chance rather than through deliberate search: I stumbled upon an old photo album in the attic, She stumbled upon the solution while working on a different problem.
The phrase suggests accidental good fortune—finding something valuable or interesting without looking for it.
