struvite

Phosphate crystal deposit

Struvite is a mineral composed of magnesium, ammonium, and phosphate that forms crystite crystals.

It occurs naturally in decomposing organic matter and is notorious for forming kidney stones in humans and bladder stones in animals, particularly cats.

In wastewater treatment, struvite buildup can clog pipes and equipment, though it can also be deliberately harvested as a slow-release fertilizer.

The vet diagnosed the cat with struvite crystals in its urine.
